Upper Hill Medical Centre, one of the largest medical facilities in Eastern Africa, serves over 2,000 patients daily across 40 specialized clinics. With its high energy demands from medical equipment, climate control, and lighting systems, the facility faced escalating electricity costs. To mitigate these expenses and reduce dependency on grid power from KPLC, the medical centre sought a sustainable energy solution.
The Solar Solution
Davis & Shirtliff (D&S) provided a 134kWp roof-mounted Solar Grid-Tie System, designed to supplement the facility’s energy needs while significantly reducing reliance on grid electricity.
The project scope included:
- Comprehensive Engineering Design – Covering solar PV installation, earthing, DC and AC cabling, inverter integration, and feed-in distribution board connection.
- High-Efficiency Solar Components – Ensuring maximum energy yield and durability.
System Components:
- Trina 660W Monocrystalline PV Modules – Offering high efficiency and durability.
- Huawei Sun2000 50KTL Inverters – Advanced inverters with intelligent monitoring and grid optimization.
- Galvanized (LGS) Roof-Mount Structure – Complete with walkways for easy maintenance.
- Switchgear, Cabling & BOS Accessories – Ensuring system safety and efficiency.
Impact & Benefits
- Reduced Energy Bills – The solar system offsets a significant portion of the medical centre’s electricity consumption.
- Sustainability – Contributes to a greener environment by lowering carbon emissions.
- Reliable Power Supply – Ensures uninterrupted medical services by reducing dependency on the national grid.
By implementing this grid-tied solar solution, Upper Hill Medical Centre now enjoys lower operational costs, improved energy security, and a sustainable power alternative, setting an example for other healthcare facilities in the region.
