Davis & Shirtliff, East Africa’s leading supplier of water and energy products has announced their exclusive distribution partnership with
German global solar market leader, SMA Solar Technology AG.
SMA is a manufacturer and supplier of solar inverters for photovoltaic systems with electricity grid connection, off-grid power supply and backup operations. Together with Davis & Shirtliff, the partnership will offer innovative key technologies for future power supply structures in the region.
In Nairobi this week is SMA Managing Director, Thorsten Ronge who will lead his team in a training and product sharing seminar to be held at Davis & Shirtliff’s knowledge centre in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
In Kenya, SMA inverters have been used in multiple solar installations e.g. the ultra-modern Garden City Mall, Thika Road as well as Strathmore College, Nairobi West. Headquartered in Niestetal, Germany, it was founded in 1981 and enjoys a global market share of 21% with 3,000 staff employed globally.
Speaking in advance of the official agreement signing, David Gatende, Davis & Shirtliff’s CEO said “Recent advances in technology coupled with the falling price of solar modules has meant that green, economical and smart solutions are now available for most water and energy requirements including hot water, lighting, power back-up, water pumping and even water treatment.”
Kenya is blessed with climate suitable to harness the renewable free source of solar energy, that is totally inexhaustible and sustainable. As a non-polluting energy source, solar does not emit greenhouse gases when producing electricity.
“As the country embraces devolution, Industrial consumers who struggle with regular power outages or have no access to the utility grid need no longer be dependent on expensive diesel electricity supply.
With a SMA grid connect solution they can turn their rooftops into solar power generating systems saving money and reducing CO2 emissions.

The Mombasa International Show took place on 31st August - 4th Sep at Mkomani Showgrounds in Mombasa County. This years show saw thousands of individuals attending from across the region
for the annual event that was opened by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta. Davis & Shirtliff was well represented at the fair with a stand that attracted hundred of individuals to have a glance at the awesome and innovative products.

Leading water and energy solutions provider, Davis & Shirtliff, recently partnered with the Water Services Providers Association (WASPA)
to provide training on emerging water & energy technologies to water utility heads who face a myriad of challenges in their operations.
The training was set to enlighten participants on available technologies to improve water quality, encourage the use of technology in monitoring and metering and optimize the use of chemical usage in conventional water purification. This comes at a time when the Water Utilities in Kenya are grappling with high operational overheads as a result of rising costs of energy and chemicals as they seek to maximise their water quality and plant operations.
“Technology is constantly changing. The ability for water bodies to provide water solutions sustainably is therefore crucial. The training introduces developments in water technologies and opportunities for improved quality as well as solar pumping technologies as a way of reducing energy costs,” said Mr. Alec Davis, the Group Chairman of Davis & Shirtliff in his welcome speech.
Davis & Shirtliff hosted the event at the D&S Knowledge centre in Nairobi’s Industrial Area which also featured other industry leading water solution providers including Dow, Improchem and Biobox.
Mr. David Gatende, the CEO of the Davis & Shirtliff Group, in his introductory remarks, noted that the training will benefit not just the water utility bodies but the country as a whole if the solutions demonstrated are taken up.
The Deputy Chairman of WASPA, Eng. Daniel Nganga emphasized that the modern public utility is looking to provide better and more efficient services and partnering with private sector players like Davis & Shirtliff is highly encouraged in the recently enacted Public Private Partnership Act.

Davis & Shirtliff recently donated water to the Sunshine rally through the Rotary club of Industrial area – Nairobi. The Sunshine rally is an annual event held by Rotary club of Nairobi that brings together over 3000 physically and mentally challenged children from different schools and homes for a day of fun, games and entertainment. As part of the founder day and D&S Group 70 year anniversary celebrations, D&S’s Eastern cluster which comprises of D&S Garissa, D&SKitui, D&S Machakos, D&S Thika, D&S Meru, D&S Nanyuki and D&S Kitengela all under General Manager Margaret Kuchio visited the Community of Hope Children’s Centre in Magogoni, Kilimambogo where they supplied and installed a 150ltr Ezinc Solar Water Heater as well as food stuffs.
The director of the centre Sr. Celine Siratei expressed her gratitude to the team citing that the heater will go a long way in improving the lives of the 36 children aged between the age of 2 months to 13 years who are hosted within the institution.
The team later on visited Ol donyo Sabuk National Park and participated in a 19km trek from the parks gate to the summit and had lunch thereafter.
