It’s always surprising how quickly the new year sprints ahead after the Christmas break and already we are approaching Easter! As usual there has been plenty of activity at D&S as the focus turns to executing plans and already much has been achieved.

An important development to report is the expansion of our pumping activities with the establishment of a specialised team to develop this major activity for us. As well as the established range of Dayliff, Pedrollo and Grundfos products we have linked up with Rovatti, a respected Italian manufacturer of large pumps that will provide solutions for bigger pumping applications. We were honoured to be visited recently by the company owner, Mr Andrea Rovatti, and regional sales manager Stephane Blaszak when strategies for growing their business in our markets was discussed. D&S is the traditional market leader in pumping solutions and this new partnership will expand the options we can offer.

A key project has been the establishment of a Chemical production facility in a dedicated unit at Athi River. Led by technical director Philip Holi and Chemical segment manager John Waema, a number of products are already being produced and more will be added as the unit becomes established. This is anticipated to be another important new business activity for the Group.

Also in hand is continued expansion of the Branch network, the latest initiative being establishing a presence in Burundi. Guided by International Business Director Anthony Wangondu, the market is managed by French-speaker Mercy Njeri who has already developed a strong customer base that will now be supported by the new subsidiary. This is the eleventh regional market where D&S has a presence, and more are under consideration as we take advantage of the many opportunities available with our wide product range and efficient distribution infrastructure. The branch network is also expanding in established markets with new locations being opened in Kajiado in Kenya and in downtown Kampala in Uganda, the Group now having over 100 branches!

Finally, some news from Dundori Rd Head Office where the site redevelopment continues, and a new Service Office and Workshop has been opened on the Beta site. It is greatly expanded from the previous facility with specialised testing equipment, extra space and a much improved working environment that will further enhance the customer service experience. The facility was designed by the Service team of GM Industrial Area David Bolo, Group Service Manager Charles Kebaso and Service Manager Amos Wambura and I'm grateful for the excellent outcome achieved
