Davis & Shirtliff Completes Assembly and Shipment of FLEN Fire Set Unit in Partnership with D&S Rwanda

Davis & Shirtliff, in collaboration with D&S Rwanda, recently completed the assembly and successful shipment of a FLEN fire set unit. This comprehensive firefighting unit, assembled to meet rigorous EN 12845 standards, represents a significant advancement in firefighting solutions. Featuring a range of quality components by Dayliff, the unit provides a powerful and reliable firefighting water supply system, crucial for safeguarding lives and property in Rwanda and the surrounding regions.

The Dayliff FLEN fire set is a meticulously engineered firefighting solution designed to support automatic sprinkler systems. This equipment combines both diesel and electric-powered pumps, ensuring continuous operability even in cases of power failure. Key components include an electric-powered main pump, a diesel-driven standby pump, and a jockey pump to maintain system pressure. This specific unit, shipped in collaboration with D&S Rwanda, has a flow rate capacity of 80 m³/hr at a 7.5-meter head, providing robust fire suppression capabilities.

The FLEN fire set is built to BS EN 12845 standards, ensuring reliability and compliance with international safety and insurance requirements. Designed specifically to meet the high demand for reliability in firefighting equipment, the Dayliff FLEN fire set includes essential features such as dual power supply pumps, an automated jockey pump, independent control panels, pressure switches, a back pull-out design, and an anti-vibration system.

The FLEN fire set incorporates both an electric and diesel-powered pump. The dual configuration guarantees continuous operation even during electrical outages, providing a robust and reliable firefighting solution. To avoid unnecessary engagement of the main pumps, a separate jockey pump maintains system pressure. This feature reduces wear and tear on the main pumps, ensuring they are only activated when a sprinkler is triggered. Additionally, the electric and diesel pumps are controlled by independent, EN 12845-compliant panels. The diesel pump control panel is equipped with dual battery systems that automatically alternate, ensuring redundancy in engine starting.

The unit features double self-disabling pressure switches that automatically engage the main pumps when needed. Additionally, the back pull-out design allows for easy maintenance without disconnecting the motor, engine, or piping, enhancing serviceability. To improve durability and reduce noise, the diesel-driven pump is equipped with rubber anti-vibration expansion joints, dampening the vibrations generated during operation.

The Dayliff FLEN fire set is built with high-performance Dayliff DE end-suction pumps, known for their heavy-duty cast-iron construction, gland packing seal, and bronze impellers. These components are tailored to meet exact design pressures and flow rates, ensuring precise performance under varying firefighting conditions. Additionally, each pump set includes a metallic fuel tank capable of supporting up to six hours of continuous diesel operation, guaranteeing reliability during prolonged firefighting scenarios.

The control system in the FLEN fire set integrates EN 12845-compliant control components, ensuring its safe operation. The diesel engine starting mechanism is designed with two alternating batteries, each supported by a trickle charger for dependable engine start-up. This redundancy enhances the reliability of the entire firefighting system, meeting the demands of critical applications in commercial and industrial facilities.

This project highlights the partnership between Davis & Shirtliff and D&S Rwanda, emphasizing their commitment to high standards and customer satisfaction in the firefighting and water solutions industry. The assembly and shipment of this unit mark a substantial contribution toward enhancing the safety infrastructure of Rwandan communities and industries. It demonstrates the ability of both organizations to deliver custom-engineered firefighting solutions tailored to regional needs.

The Dayliff FLEN fire set, assembled and shipped by Davis & Shirtliff in collaboration with D&S Rwanda, represents a significant leap in firefighting technology for the region. Its adherence to EN 12845 standards, along with a robust configuration of diesel and electric-powered pumps, jockey pump, anti-vibration systems, and automated pressure management, makes it an essential asset for any facility prioritizing safety and resilience against fire hazards. This project underscores Davis & Shirtliff’s mission to provide innovative, high-quality solutions that meet global standards while addressing local requirements for safety and reliability.
