Mwanza, Tanzania, sits within a striking landscape on the southern shores of Lake Victoria, where gently undulating terrain meets rocky hills and distinctive granite outcrops. Amid this remarkable landscape, in Buhongwa, lies Village of Hope, a place supporting children from challenging backgrounds. And here lies an important paradox: being close to one of Africa's great freshwater lakes does not automatically guarantee access to safe drinking water.

For Village of Hope Facility, the journey of water does not end with finding a source. Questions that should never have been part of childhood began to emerge: “Why does the water look cloudy?” “Is this water safe to drink?” Imagine those same questions echoing among 350 people, all depending on the same water, where turbidity, suspended particles and microorganisms made better water treatment not just important, but essential.

Through Davis & Shirtliff, under the leadership of Mwanza Branch Manager Celina Manyonyi, a Dayliff 1 m³/hr Ultrafiltration Unit was installed, providing a capacity of 1,000 litres of water per hour. The intervention will reduce exposure to waterborne microorganisms that can contribute to gastrointestinal illness.
